Jason has experience managing a wide array of state and local tax matters—particularly in the area of sales and use taxes. He has represented hundreds of taxpayers before various state taxing authorities throughout his career.
Before joining the Firm, Jason spent several years as a sales
and use tax consultant representing national clients before taxing authorities across the country. He led the Audit Support practice at a cloud-based tax software company where he managed client's ongoing audits, negotiated settlements, and handled appeals. Additionally, he assisted clients with tax planning, exposure analysis, refunds, nexus issues, and determining product and service taxability. In this role he also gained experience assisting with software implementations, configuring tax settings, and developing custom rules to meet the needs of individual clients.
Jason is a northern California native and relocated to Ohio in 2016. He began his career at the California State Board of Equalization (BOE) where he completed hundreds of sales and use tax field audits on behalf of the State. He also spent time reviewing petitioned audit cases before they went to hearing, and set a new precedent for percentage of completed audits returned to the auditor for correction. Jason left the BOE in 2013 to join a local consulting firm that specialized in audit strategy and defense.
Jason has instructed basic sales and use tax courses for business owners, as well as delivered in-depth presentations about the audit process to other accounting professionals and CPAs.
