Jen is a Tax Manager with 15 years of auditing and tax experience. She assists clients with Ohio commercial activity tax and multi-state sales and use tax. She has experience conducting refund reviews, tax research, voluntary disclosures, audit defense, tax planning and tax compliance.
Outside of ZHF, Jen has state government experience, including being an Examiner/Analyst for the Ohio Department of Insurance and a Tax Auditor for the Ohio Department of Taxation. Jen is also an adjunct Accounting professor at Malone University.
While working at the Ohio Department of Insurance, she analyzed the financial condition of domestic and foreign insurance companies to determine solvency and compliance with statutes and regulations. She performed comprehensive reviews of records, financial statements, operating policies and procedures, and examined contracts to determine legality and propriety. She also evaluated and reviewed merger and acquisition plans.
While at the Ohio Department of Taxation, she conducted audits for commercial activity tax and sales and use tax. She worked with companies of all sizes and numerous industry types including manufacturers, construction contractors, retailers, restaurants, co-ops, and healthcare organizations. As part of her career with the Ohio Department of Taxation, Jen was exposed to a vast array of tax issues and audit methods. She has significant experience in statistical and block sampling, test check audits for restaurants, and mark-up audits for carry outs. Jen was a trainer for commercial activity tax and served as a mentor to less experienced auditors in sales and use tax.
