Ohio Republican Leadership Announces New Tax Reform Plan
In a joint press conference held today with Ohio Senate President Keith Faber and Ohio House of Representatives Speaker William Batchelder, the Ohio General Assembly's Republican leadership announced that it plans to blend the tax provisions contained in both the House and Senate versions of Am. Sub. H.B. 59 (the biennial budget bill) during the pending Conference Committee. Their plan is designed to shift Ohio towards a consumption-based tax structure and away from its current income tax structure. In their information document on the plan, Republican leadership states that it wants to ensure that it is "not playing a 'shell game' where $1 of taxes are cut, but raised by $1 elsewhere."
